Pumps and
Motors Troubleshooting Procedure
** WARNING: This procedure is
only for the reference of professional pump technicians or
electricians. Normal users should NOT attempt to repair any
damaged pumps or motors as the risks of getting electrocuted are high
without taking adequate safety precautions.
**
Situations:
1.
Spiking electricity currents or overheating pump or motor body;
2.
Main power switch flipped off or there were noticeable noises;
3. Below reasonable flow output or inconsistent output;
4.
Unable to pump water;
5.
Unable to start;

Procedures:
(Please follow the steps until the problem's found)
- Inspect the pump's impeller to see if particles or dirt
have got inside, jamming the impeller;
-
Identify the pump's (or motor's) cable assembly where it connects with
the main power supply;
-
Using an electric meter to check if the main power
supply provides adequate starting voltage.
Confirming its voltage type, ie. 110V, 220V or 380V.
Please refer to Picture ( 1 ). If the voltage drop
caused by poor cable contact is greater than 10%, the pump (or motor)
will have trouble starting.
- Check the traveling electricity current on each cable to
see if there are any abnormalities. Please refer to Picture (
2 ).
-
For 3 Phase power supply, please switch around the connections of two of the
three cables and then check to see if the rotation of the pump (or
motor) has reversed;
- For submersible pump, please temporarily remove its outlet
(discharge) hose or pipe connection for more convenient monitoring of its water
flow output. Two possible causes for problems: A: pump's outlet hose
or pipe connection has become blocked, broken or loosen, B: the pump's
hydraulic control valve is either faulty or being placed incorrectly.
When
installing Motors
and Pumps, it's high recommended to install the following as additions:
- Electromagnetic Switch, Overload Protector
(strictly confining the range of electricity current), and 3 Phase
Power Protector. They can effectively prevent the risks of
motor burnt-out.
-
Electricity circuit breaker or switch to maximize user's safety.
Thank you for your attention.
